How to color, tint and dye your eyebrows with hair color
Did you know it is against salon regulations in some states to apply hair color dye to eyebrows? It can be a dangerous task but if you're careful, tinting your brows can be easy and most of all, esthetically pleasing if done right.
If you're considering dying your eyebrows, here is a few simple tips:
If you're blonde, naturally or unnaturally, lightening your brows usually never looks good. The general rule for lightening the brows is to never go more than a half a shade lighter than the color they are now.

If you must lighten your eyebrow color, don't use the same color you apply to your hair. Choose a hair dye the same level (lightness or darkness of the hair color) and choose a COOL tone. Also known as ASH. Applying a cool tone to the brows while lightening, will help avoid that golden, reddish tint. Apply to the brows and leave on for 5 minutes. Remove. If not light enough, you can always reapply the dye. Use a face cloth to remove the dye from the brows, dry and check the color.
  • Always apply the color with a small paint brush or your fingertip.
  • Close your eye when applying the dye to your brows. Do one eye at a time or have someone apply the color for you.
  • Always choose an ash or cool tone. A cool color will help you avoid that golden tint some dyes can give to the eyebrows.
  • Always check the color after 5 minutes. Remove with a face cloth, and dry. You can always apply the color again.

Darkening
Once again, the simple rule in coloring eyebrows is stay a half a shade lighter or darker than your natural brow color, not your hair color! Apply the tint to the eyebrows, remove after 5minutes, dry and check the color. Reapply if necessary.
How to tint eyebrows if your hair is red:
These tips are for artificial red heads. If you do color your hair red and want to tint the eyebrows, here's a neat little trick we do in the salon. Take the hair color, you can use the same hair color you are using on the head, and daub a little on the brows. Leave for 5 minutes tops. Remove. This gives a tiny hint of red and it looks natural.
How to cover grey in your eyebrows
If you have straggly gray hairs in your brow, coloring works great to cover these. It also softens the course hairs and restores the texture. Choose a hair color that matches the natural color of your eyebrows, not your hair color. Apply; remove in 5 minutes and check. Re-apply if necessary. Usually gray eyebrows take a bit more time to dye. But choosing the correct color is key!
